By Edamama Bean
As the cold winter winds begin to whisper and the holiday season approaches, there’s nothing more comforting than a warm, hearty bowl of soup. In the spirit of combining diverse culinary traditions, we’re bringing together the rich flavors of Mexican birria and the soul-soothing essence of Japanese ramen. Enter the fusion delight: Birria Ramen – a culinary journey that warms not just the body but also the heart, making it the perfect dish to savor as the temperatures drop and the festive season draws near.
Toast the dried chilies in a dry pan until fragrant. Soak them in hot water for about 20 minutes. Enough for them to be rehydrated and soft.
While the chilies are being soaked chop your garlic, onion, and tomatoes.
In the pan you toasted the chilies heat your tbsp of oil. Throw in the onions, garlic, and tomatoes. Remove once they are softened.
Add the cooked onion, tomatoes, and garlic to a food processor.
Remove the softened chilies and add to the food processor.
Add the seasonings to the food processor along with the vinegar and 1 cup beef stock. Process until smooth. It should be pretty thick. You can strain if you’d like for a smoother sauce.
Prepare the Chuck Roast:
Take your chuck roast and brown it on all sides.
Once you have your meat browned on all sides place it in a Dutch oven.
Add your Birria sauce and the remaining beef broth.
Preheat your oven to 350 and cook your Birria for about 3 hours once the meat is fully cooked and tender.
Cook the Ramen and Prepare Toppings:
In a separate pot, bring water to a simmer.
Cook the ramen noodles according to the package instructions and set them aside.
While that is cooking slice your radish, avocado, and jalapeno, and chop some fresh cilantro.
This is optional but making a ramen egg would be a great addition.
Assemble the Fusion Delight:
Place a serving of ramen noodles in each bowl.
Ladle the Birria broth over the noodles, ensuring each bowl gets a generous portion of the flavorful broth and tender beef.
If you want a smoother Broth feel free to strain it.
Garnish with your favorite toppings or sliced green onions and cilantro to add a fresh, vibrant touch.
